Scots MEP Alyn Smith’s campaign for free drinking water at Europe’s airports has accelerated with the launch of an online petition in a bid to change EU law.
The SNP MEP is seeking support from the general public to increase pressure on the EU lawmakers to bring in compulsory water fountains at all EU airports.
Encouragement has come from across the continent and Smith hopes that he can get enough momentum behind the campaign to force a change in EU legislation and help protect travellers across Europe.
“The positive response from the media, general public and messages of support on social media platforms has given this campaign a real boost and I have launched an online petition, which I hope will demonstrate how strongly people feel about this issue.
“The support we have received has been overwhelming and we have a good opportunity here to make a positive change for the millions of passengers who travel through European airports each month.
"I have started collecting signatures and am inviting anyone who agrees with this idea to visit my website to add their name to the petition - http://www.alynsmith.eu/drinking_water_at_airports."
