MEP Urges Scots To Take EU Opportunity

27 September 2006
Scottish National Party MEP Alyn Smith has today urged Scots to take opportunities to work in the European Union at an EU jobs fair being held in the capital on Monday 3rd October.

The jobs fair in Edinburgh will provide people with advice on working in the EU and information on potential jobs and employers with information on recruiting overseas.

Mr Smith who worked and studied in the EU prior to becoming an MEP said

"Working in Europe is a great opportunity and one I would encourage all Scots to take. As long as they remember to come home again.

"We are often told about the number of people from other countries in the EU working in Scotland, we don't often see Scots being encouraged to go overseas.

"The experience of working in the EU is a fantastic one and a real boost to any CV - especially with the language skills it brings. Scotland is part of the EU and other EU countries are our main trading partner so it's essential we have people in Scotland who can work with people from other countries and understand other cultures.

"I would encourage anyone interested in working in the EU or anyone looking for a new challenge to head along to the job fair and see the opportunities that are out there. Just remember to come home."

The European Jobs Fair is part of the European Year of Worker Mobility and is being run in Scotland by Job Centre Plus will be held on Monday 3rd October at Edinburgh City Jobcentre, South St Andrews St
