Alyn is Honorary Vet

SNP MEP Alyn Smith has thanked the BVA for re-electing him as Honorary Associate for another year.

The British Veterinary Association, one of Europe’s most respected and influential professional bodies, awards the position to public figures who have an interest in the wellbeing of animals and in the veterinary profession. Alyn is already the Honorary Vice President of the Scottish SSPCA in recognition of his work on animal welfare.

Alyn has previously highlighted the need to protect animal welfare standards during the Brexit negotiations, and has commended the BVA for their ongoing hard work in the area.

Alyn said

“I am delighted to have been awarded the Honorary Associate role again, and extend my thanks to the members and BVA Council for this honour.

“The BVA has been a consistently strong voice speaking up and giving the public the facts and real-world implications of Brexit, rather than getting bogged down in hyperbole.

“The BVA have no dog, pig, or horse in this fight. When they say that a no-deal Brexit could have very serious consequences for animal health and the veterinary workforce, politicians should listen.

“Our existing animal welfare provisions, veterinary medicine, and animal health standards must be guaranteed to continue at today’s high standard.

“I look forward to working with the BVA in the future, whatever it may hold.”
