Internship Opportunity

One of the first things Alyn did on his election in 2004 was to create an internship programme in memory of one of his predecessors, Allan Macartney. The team has a regular need of help in the Brussels office, and there are opportunities all year round (except for over the summer and winter recesses when Brussels goes quiet and there is less to do and see).

The internship lasts three months, and offers a chance to experience the day to day operation of the office, gaining experience in EU legislation, the work of the European Parliament, constituency work and anything from drafting speeches or press releases to assisting with the day to day operation of a very busy office. The basic working hours are Monday to Friday 9-5, however a flexible attitude to working will be required as the internship is results driven.

Any successful intern should be ready to work hard in a demanding, though enjoyable, environment. The ideal candidate will be a recent university graduate, age is not an issue. Successful applicants will have proven research, IT and organisational skills. Knowledge of French would be helpful. While the internship is unfortunately unpaid, Alyn will himself pay for a return journey from Scotland to Brussels. As a quid pro quo of an unpaid internship, every effort is made to ensure interns are involved in relevant, challenging and important work, Alyn does not need bag carriers and gets his own coffee!

All applications are welcome, as Alyn needs support all year round and the needs of the team and available projects vary. Interviews take place in Edinburgh and involve a written practical exercise. If interested, please send a CV and covering letter indicating what period you are applying for to:
