Euro-Agriculture Committee Coming to Scotland
Scotland's only full member of the European Parliament's Agriculture Committee Mr Alyn Smith has successfully persuaded his Committee to bring a full delegation to Scotland to see the issues faced by Scottish Agriculture and hear Scotland's views on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
The delegation's diary is currently in preparation, but will include a working session with Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead MSP, and should also meet with the Holyrood Committee on Environment and Rural Affairs. The delegation will be in Scotland for three days in late February next year, and will also meet with farming organisations andvisit working rural businesses.
Smith said:
"This is the third Committee I have managed to persuade to Scotland, and I am looking forward to showcasing the best in Scottish farming and making the Committee members aware of the real issues facing farming in Scotland.
"I'm quite sure that the fight against EID of sheep will figure high on the agenda, as well as the discussions on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, which will be at their peak early next year and are already hugely significant for Scotland.
"With the European elections looming in June next year I'm glad I have managed to persuade the Committee to my country to see Scotland, Europe's Quality Larder."
