Smith Praises Puffin Poo Pro Over Her Sweet Win!
SNP MEP Alyn Smith, has written to the owner of The Shetland Fudge Company, Gillian Ramsay, to congratulate her on her successful legal battle with Asda.
The supermarket giants tried to block an attempt by The Shetland Fudge Company to register the name "Puffin Poo". However, Ramsay and her seven employees based in Lerwick, have been making the Puffin Poo chocolate nuggets since 2000. They are sold in shops throughout Shetland and Orkney.
Speaking from Brussels, Smith said:
"I wrote to Gillian because I am both delighted and proud of her for representing herself and winning. Orkney and Shetland are famed for puffins and this case serves as a perfect example of local food and creativity winning out against centralised factory production; that carry no attachment to the name.
"I believe we should all do our bit to support locally-produced goods and cut down on food miles. Scotland is bursting with excellent locally-produced goods and we should all fill our pockets with it and strengthen Scottish economy."
