Get Your Art On If You Heart Europe
The contest, organised by the European Commission is aimed at university students with an interest in graphic design and European culture. The winning poster will be translated into the EU's 23 official languages and distributed in all 27 EU countries. The winner will also be invited to Brussels for an award ceremony to coincide with Europe Day celebrations. Designs will be judged by a jury of high-profile European designers and communication experts, the eventual winner receiving €2 000 and the two runners-up each receiving €1 000. Entries can be submitted electronically and must be submitted by midnight Brussels time on 30 November 2009.
Speaking from Strasbourg, Smith said:
"I think this is a fantastic opportunity for Scottish Universities finest art students to showcase their talent and be in the chance of winning a healthy sum of money that would no doubt lighten the student overdraft! I would love to see a Scot crowned winner.
"Europe has a colourful past and a challenging future and it will be interesting to see how creative art students will depict this. If you're a graphic designer or a graphic design student, I encourage you to get your pens out and get creative."
