MEP On The Hunt For The Next Top Student Designer
The SNP Passport to Europe is a brochure that provides all the necessary information Scots need to know to ensure they are fully informed on what their rights and entitlements are under EU law. Much of the guidance is based on official European Commission documents, which while publicly available are not widely known.
Smith will outline to Aberdeen College art and design students what he is looking for, the terms and conditions of the competition and the deadline for the design. The winner will then be selected by Smith and his team and the brochure will then be printed and sent free of charge to all secondary schools, universities and libraries in Scotland and will be available electronically to anyone upon request.
Mr Smith, an alternate member of the Parliament's Culture and Education Committee, is keen to encourage more ambitious, young Scots to take full advantage of the opportunities in the European Union and help Scotland play an active role in Europe.
Speaking ahead of his visit, Smith said:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for Aberdeen's next Salvador Dali in the making to showcase their talent and have it seen by thousands of people! It will look great on the winners CV and hopefully open many doors for them. I look forward to seeing all the entries and I am sure selecting a winner will prove to be a very difficult task.
"As citizens of the EU, all Scots have the right to live, work, study, travel, shop and retire anywhere in the EU. However, not everyone is fully aware of their rights under EU law, the opportunities that are available to them as EU citizens or how to take advantage of them. I hope that this booklet casts light on these issues and makes young people aware of what they can gain and contribute to."
