Congratulations To Off Shore Project

Scottish National Party MEP Alyn Smith, who last month visited the Beatrice off shore wind farm project with European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs has today congratulated those involved in the development as the turbines were transported down the Moray Firth.

Speaking after the first of the turbine towers and the turbine parts were transported by barge from Nigg to the turbine site in the Moray Firth Mr Smith said

"I want to offer my congratulations to those involved not just today but across the whole development process. I am pleased to see this project going from strength to strength and the construction of the wind turbines taking another step forward.

"A tremendous amount of work has gone into these turbines from Fife, to Lewis, to Nigg and out in the Moray Firth. It was an honour to showcase this project to the EU Energy Commissioner and to see how impressed he was with what was being achieved.

"Once these turbines are operational I hope this wind farm project will prove its worth and pave the way for more offshore turbines in the Moray Firth and elsewhere. The power that can be generated by these turbines offers Scotland a real renewable future.

"Projects like the Beatrice show that talk of new nuclear power in Scotland is not only unwanted but also unneeded."
