SNP MEP on Highland Decision Against Local Produce
Mr Smith, a member of Europe's influential agriculture committee, is at the Black Isle show as part of a week long Highland tour devoted to food and farming.
Speaking from the Black Isle Show Mr Smith said
"On the day people across the Highlands are gathering to celebrate local produce it is a sad irony that Highland Council has announced it's refusal to back local producers bidding to supply highland schools with fresh local produce.
"I question this decision and will be contacting colleagues on Highland Council to urge them to revisit this matter
"From my discussions with SNP colleagues on Highland Council I am confident that the SNP will support a review of this decision and I hope any new decision will look more favourably on local farmers."
