MEP to take the plunge for charity

An MEP will take a jump in a river and calls on other politicians to join him.  Alyn Smith is taking part in an extreme river challenge to raise money for Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team.

Alyn said:

“Politicians get accused of not getting their hands dirty but mine are certainly going to get wet! I hope Scotland’s other politicians will take on the challenge and sign up for the Glen Nevis River Race.

“So here’s the challenge to the MSPs, MPs, MEPs and councillors; a lilo should get you down the Gurgling Gorge, through Dead Dog Pool, past the Leg Breaker and over Lower Falls Leap – easy stuff, the first to cross the finish line wins!

“It will be great fun but it has a serious cause behind it.   I’m a bit nervous but mountain rescue volunteers risk their lives to keep people safe on our hills, so a wee dip in cold water isn’t too much for us.  No Fuss Events will make sure we all come out the other end, I hope!

“I’m sure I’m not the only politician in Scotland who can make the trip to Fort William on a Saturday for a cause like this.  Let’s see the cut of their jib or the colour of their money in sponsorship. Journalists can try it as well – if they think they’re up to it.

“If anyone wants to send some money the way of the mountain rescue team they can do that on the fundraising page and there will be plenty of other participants to sponsor.

“Get in touch, let’s do it together for the good cause!”
