Traineeship Opportunity

One of the first things Alyn did on his election in 2004 was to create a traineeship programme in memory of one of his predecessors, Allan Macartney.

The traineeship lasts three months and is based in the European Parliament in Brussels. It offers a chance to experience the day to day operation of the office, from experience in EU legislation, the work of the European Parliament and constituency work to drafting speeches and press releases. The basic working hours are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, however a flexible attitude to working will be required as the internship is results driven.

Any successful trainee should be ready to work hard in a demanding, though enjoyable, environment. The ideal candidate will be a recent university graduate, however age is not an issue. Successful applicants will have proven research, IT and organisational skills. Knowledge of French would be helpful but it is not essential.

It is with regret that this traineeship is unpaid. However, every effort is made to ensure that trainees are involved in challenging and important work relevant to their future plans - Alyn does not need bag carriers and he gets his own coffee! The successful applicant must be confident that they can financially support themselves for the duration of their stay, and cope with living in a foreign city.

Interviews will take place in Edinburgh. The traineeship runs year round (though not the summer recess as Parliament goes very quiet and there is much less to see) and we have a degree of flexibility with dates to suit applicants. If interested, please send a CV and covering letter (detailing when you are applying for) to:
