Alyn Hails Government EU Agriculture Engagement

23 November 2011
Alyn Smith MEP has today (Wednesday) hailed the announcement of a Scottish Government Roadshow explaining the potential impact of proposed reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy on Scotland and urged Scotland's farmers and rural communities to get involved.
The officials will visit 13 different venues across the country, explaining the reforms, answering questions and inviting comments from the public. There will even be a podcast for those unable to attend a meeting in person.

Alyn said:

"This is top notch engagement from Richard Lochhead and his team. I have urged Scotland's farmers, growers and rural communities to be "all over" the CAP reform process, and this is precisely the sort of facilitating leadership the SNP government has brought to policy making.

"Scotland is part of the EU and even while we are presently represented indirectly in some EU meetings by the London Ministers, we are not short of other ways to make Scotland's views heard. Not least Scotland's MEPs!

"CAP reform is going to be hard fought, and we'll need to work together to make sure we get the best result for Scotland. I'm confident we'll manage, but we need all the talents and all the expertise and enthusiasm. The Scottish Government is doing its bit and I have every confidence the people will do theirs."

Farmers throughout Scotland will receive a letter from Richard Lochhead shortly giving further details about the CAP reform proposals.
