Smith Welcomes Voluntary Code for Broadband Advertising

05 June 2008

Mr Smith, a long time campaigner for greater clarity in broadband advertising, was buoyed by the news that so far 32 internet providers have signed up to the scheme, covering 90% of the country.

Mr Smith said:

"Over the years, I have been inundated with complaints from all over remote and rural Scotland about constituents not getting the service they paid for.

"For far too long there has been a lack of clarity with regards to what has been advertised by service providers versus the reality of consumers' experience.

"This move is designed to avoid EU regulation, but is never the less a solid step in the right direction that should help consumers.

"I am confident that this move will add clarity to the system and strengthen consumer confidence in one of the most rapidly expanding markets in the world."
