The pledge, part of the SSA's campaign in the run up to the Holyrood election calls on elected members to act as a Scottish Sporting Champion throughout their term in Parliament.

Smith said:

"I’m pleased to sign this pledge and will do my utmost to protect the interests and promote the benefits of sport in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and beyond.

"We in Scotland have a proud sporting history and long will that continue. Active citizens make healthier and happy citizens, and sport is key to that and we need to see more sport across Scotland.”
