Tynewater Primary School To Quiz MEP

26 October 2009
Primary 5 pupils at Tynewater Primary School will tomorrow (Tuesday) put Scotland's youngest MEP in the hot seat as they question him on European politics.

SNP MEP Alyn Smith, an alternate member of the Parliament's Culture and Education Committee, will speak to P5 students who are about to embark on a five week course on Europe, about his role as an MEP and the purpose of the European Parliament.

Speaking prior to the visit Smith said,

"I'm delighted to be visiting Tynewater Primary School on their first day back after the October break and hope that I can be of help to the pupils studying European Politics.

"It's great to see Europe included as part of the curriculum and I'm anticipating some tough questions from the class.

"I would also like to encourage them to think about the opportunities Europe has to offer as they prepare to leave school and go on to higher education."
