Scotland's Agriculture MEP Addresses Crofters

14 May 2009
SNP MEP Alyn Smith will be in Dingwall on Friday (15 May) to take part in the Scottish Crofting Foundation's European election hustings.

This is being held in advance of the European elections on 4 June.

Speaking in advance of the hustings, Alyn Smith said:

"I'm delighted to have been selected to stand again for the SNP in the upcoming election.

"It has been an honour to represent Scotland in the European Parliament over the last five years, and I have been working hard for our farming interests during my time in the Agriculture Committee.

"However, with the oncoming spectre of CAP reform, it is vital that Scotland has the strongest possible voice in the next Parliament. The SNP is the only party that stands just for Scotland.

"Our MEPs pledge to provide the strongest voice for your concerns in Europe and the more SNP MEPs we return to the European Parliament the louder this voice will be. We will ensure that Scotland's rural interests are taken into account when the debate begins on these crucial pieces of legislation."
