"Time's Up For Too Good To Be True Flight Deals", says Smith

10 July 2008
Alyn Smith SNP MEP for Scotland has hailed a decision taken by the European Parliament today, which will prohibit airlines from advertising fares without including additional costs such as taxes and charges.

These new measures are set to be implemented across the European Union by the end of the year.

Alyn Smith said:

“This will be a great boost in confidence not only for Scottish holidaymakers, but also for tourists travelling from the continent to visit Scotland.

“For far too long, consumers have been led down the garden path on these so-called cheap flight deals, only to be hit with exorbitant fees and charges when it comes to finalising the bill.

“It’s time for certain airlines to come clean and make sure that when a consumer buys a flight from them, it does exactly what it says on the tin.”
