SNP Welcome For Viking Energy Wind Farm

04 April 2012
Local politicians have today welcomed the news that Energy Minister Fergus Ewing has given the go ahead for a 370 megawatt wind farm, with 103 turbines, in the centre of Shetland.
Council candidate for Lerwick North, Danus Skene said:

“This is a welcome announcement from the Scottish Government and will have a positive effect for the local community. It is clear the Fergus Ewing has considered these proposals carefully and I’m glad he has come down on the side that is right for Shetland.”

Lerwick South candidate Iain Morrison said:

“This wind farm will transform Shetland environmentally and economically. The decision to grant approval for 103 of the 127 proposed turbines by the Scottish Government shows that they have the best interest of Shetland and the local community at heart.”

Jean Urquhart MSP added:

“The Viking Energy wind farm will have a fantastic economic impact on the local community and I’m pleased that the SNP Government has given it the green light.”

Member of the European Parliament’s Energy Committee Alyn Smith MEP said:

“This is good news for Shetland and good news for the rest of the country. Scotland is seeing a renewables revolution happening at the moment and it’s fantastic to see that all areas, from the South of Scotland to the Northern Isles, can benefit from the energy windfall.”
