Alyn has long been opposed to bullfighting and in May 2013 famously called for a complete end to EU subsidies for farmers using the money to raise bulls for the ring.
After his petition reached 12,000 signatures, it was submitted directly to the European Commission in October 2013.
“Blood sports have no place in the 21st century. I would normally say that the internal matters of another country are the business of that country but this supposed sport is barbaric… it is unacceptable to have public money boost the coffers of people who rear cattle just to watch them be tortured to death.”
